We are a group of Pocono Mountains residents working to build a better world for all, starting at home. In our pursuit of this vision, we are united by a core set of values:
- Reciprocity: We believe help is a two-way street, that we are all interconnected and interdependent, and that everyone has something to give.
- Respect/Equality: We believe each individual has equal, inherent value as a human being and deserves to have their basic needs met and embody their full identity without fear.
- Accountability: Each group member is accountable to all other members, and our group is accountable to our community. Accountability means when we learn we’ve made a mistake or hurt someone, we accept feedback and take tangible steps to correct harm, restore any damaged relationships, and do better in the future.
- Sustainability: We believe that climate change is a human-caused, existential threat that must be addressed on a massive scale by rejecting capitalism and imperialism and restoring Indigenous land stewardship.
- Consensus-based, egalitarian decisionmaking: We are working to dismantle hierarchical structures in our society, and that starts within our group. Every group member’s viewpoint and contributions are equally valuable, and we do not move forward with a given action or project without everyone’s consent.
- Clear, transparent procedures for resolving conflict: We believe that conflict can be a generative and constructive process when everyone involved remains true to our shared values and works together toward a resolution. Our conflict resolution procedure sets out our guidelines for resolving conflicts in a positive way.
- Confidentiality: We will maintain the trust of those who come to us for help, as well as group members who share their thoughts and experiences in internal discussions.
